Tuesday Thingers

This week's topic: Discussion groups. Do you belong to any (besides Early Reviewers)? Approximately how many? Are there any in particular that you participate in more avidly? How often do you check?
On LibraryThing, I belong to/watch/post to What Are You Reading Now?; Early Reviewers; 50 Book Challenge; The Black Orchid (A Nero Wolfe Group); Crime, Thriller & Mystery; Midwestern Readers and Made Into A Movie. Of those, I check Early Reviewers and WAYRN obsessively, Black Orchid and CT&M regularly, and 50 Book Challenge only when I finish a book. The conversation is smart and civil - what more can you ask for? There's a good mix of people in each group - some who are avid readers, some casual readers, different knowledge levels and interests. Makes for an excellent discussion.

I participate in several other internet forums, where the book threads include Bookapalooza, Turn The Page, What Are You Reading and Books & Authors in the News.

That is quite a few. Will have to check some of those out.

I also belong to quite a few groups. Wouldn't it be nice if on our profile page we had a way of seeing if any new posts were made to our starred threads? I might suggest that to Tim. I'll have to check out the mystery/crime/thriller thread. That's about all my husband reads.

I also posted my answer at:

I do see how you gravitate towards the mysteries, there. As I wrote, I too appreciate the civility, thoughtfulness, and depth evinced by Thingamabrarians.

I agree, it's so nice to have (civil) conversations with so many different people.

I like reading other peoples opinions especially when it's about a book that I'm familiar with. So I usually just hover on the edge and dive in when it's a really interesting topic.
