Tuesday Teasers!

I know that I missed last week, so I wanted to be sure and post something from the book I am currently reviewing, Ambrosia: about a culture, a very serious look at electronica music, its origins and the culture surrounding it.

You know the rules here: take your current book, open it at random, pick two sentences and avoid spoilers. Pretty simple, so here we go....

"The seven most important sub-genres of electronica are house, garage, trance, techno, break-beats, drum n' bass and hardcore. In order to go any farther, it is important to understand what all of these subgenres are and where they come from."

Lisa, are you enjoying this book?

I love to run to electronica. It has a great beat for speed runs.

How interesting! I love music, but am so ignorant when it comes to knowing the different types, genres and sub-genres. This sounds like an interesting book.

Whoa...all the sub-genres are giving me a headache! There's too many for me to keep up with, so I always tell my friends that as far as I'm concerned there's only two kinds of music: good music and bad music. LOL!

Ya know, that one sentence made my eyes cross. My eyes, the eyes of a total music lover. No wonder I'm such a fiction slut!

Thanks for the teaser!! I am a huge dance music fan (particularly drum and bass) and I think this looks very very interesting!

I am enjoying the book, although the writing leaves a bit to be desired. It's the sort of thorough investigation you usually read about far older subjects - these are songs you've heard, clubs you've been to, records you've purchased.

>all the sub-genres are giving me a headache

Just wait! You haven't gotten to the subgenres! You can take any one of those genres and make it acid, hard, progressive, ambient or funky. Then there are the ones outside those classifications, like jungle, latin, happy and Goa. Talk about head-spinning!

This one is interesting.

Electronica, is that like techno? Good TT. So cool that you're in Amsterdam, I spent a day there-it wasn't nearly enough time!
