Teaser Tuesday!

Okay, you know how this works: take your current read, open at random and give us 2 teaser sentences.

My current book is Throw Out Fifty Things by Gail Blanke. I have said here before that I am a packrat, so it was very nice of the folks at LibraryThing's Early Reviewer program to send it to me (how did they know?). Today, I am going to break the rule of two. I found an interesting passage about - gasp! - getting rid of books:

"Surrounding myself with books shouts, I want to learn, I am a curious person, I am smart. But Beth decided that maybe she no longer needed to make that point - and that in some cases her overabundance of books actually weighed her down. "Books can be a burden and a source of frustration because they remind me at every turn that I will never have enough time and energy to absorb what I've got, let alone what's yet to be published."

I never really thought about my books that way, but I admit that I do sometimes feel guilty about all the books I own that I have never read. Of course, that doesn't mean I won't read them or that I don't want to have them, but I am curious to see what the author's advice will be to Beth. My little packrat heart is afraid I already know.

Ye gads...throw out 50 things!! I couldn't do it! Loved your teaser. I am going to embrace that part of being a packrat in regards to my books, now magazine...I could easily throw those away!!

I have about 500 book at this point and maybe I have read a fifth of them. I think I prefer not to think about statements like that.

Love that passage! I don't know if I could throw out 50 things....

Well, the thrust of the book is all about clearing the clutter not just out of your house, but out of your life. I think it will be good for me, even if I don't throw out 50 things.

Yikes - burden, frustration AND books all in the same sentence? haven't thought of it like that, but on occasion, I think I can relate. :)

Here's my Teaser! ~ Wendi

Great teaser. I'm not much of a packrat, mainly because I have to fight against my husband's tendency to keep everything. I'm afraid my daughter's following his footsteps, too.

I don't know about books to be thrown out, you never know when you might want to re read it. That's a very hard thing for me to throw out. It would have to be on fire!
I could probably throw out 50 of my hubby's faded old t shirts if I thought I could get away with it. Lol! Great teaser.Mine is here

I could never look at owning books as a source of frustration. I'm sure I've got fifty things around the place that I could throw out, but it probably wouldn't include any books! Great teaser (but shocking!).

I guess it all comes down to perspective.
Good teaser!

That is a very interesting teaser. I try not to buy too many books so that I don't feel overloaded with them all at once. Now I just need to get over to the library and donate the ones I didn't enjoy as much as I had hoped.

Thanks for sharing!

Your quote is one to savor, think about and talk about. Very interesting. I'm curious as what the rest of the book is about. Thanks for sharing.

That really is a true sentiment, as much as I don't want to admit it.
