Tuesday Thingers

Today's question, from Wendi's Book Corner: Were you aware of the Member Giveaways Program? Have you posted any books in the giveaway? If so, what are your thoughts on the program? Have you requested any books, and if so, did you win any?

Yes, I was aware of the Member Giveaway Program. I have requested a couple of books, but I have honestly tried to stay away from it. (While looking through it again for this post, I requested a few more.) I am an addict! The first step is to admit that I am powerless against my addiction to books. Nothing will stop me from acquiring more books - not a lack of bookshelves, not a lack of time to read them - and giving them away free like that just makes it worse!

Seriously, I think it's a fine program. I was a little curious why someone (not an author or publisher) would choose to give away a book there when there are so many swaps and mooches available, but it seems to have gotten great response so far. I am all in favor of anything that gets books into people's hands.

I also wonder why a bunch of people would want a water damaged New Kids on the Block book. I thought that had to be a joke!

Let me know when you start a support group - I'll be the first to sign up. I've requested a couple books, too, but so far, haven't snagged any. I'm okay with it, though.

My book shelves and all other flat surfaces in my house, office, closets, etc would indicate that I need to join up as well. But can we make the meetings short so we will have more time to read. And maybe, to "come" to meetings you have to bring a book to share!

I have requested some books from there too, so far I haven't received anything. I don't like all the individual rejection notices, lol.

Admitting your addiction is the first step.

The second is buying another book. ;-)

I have that same addiction! :)

I think that the main difference between this program and other swap programs is that with this one you are supposed to review the book. I think it started as a way to give lesser-known authors (like self-pubs) a chance to get their books in front of reviewers.

LOL - at least we have a good addiction! You know, I've been kind of surprised at how many people are posting books there instead of the swap sites, but it does help to get more participation in the program that way. :)

Thanks for stopping by and participating in Thingers last week! I've got the post up for this week, we're taking a look at the new LT Memes. ~ Wendi
